Announcing “Gestures of Resistance”: Kehinde Awofeso’s Solo Debut at SOTO Gallery
Revolving Art Incubator (RAI) is thrilled to unveil “Gestures of Resistance,” the much-anticipated debut solo exhibition by esteemed figurative artist *Kehinde Awofeso*. This unique collection, curated by the insightful *Jumoke Sanwo*, promises to be a momentous exploration of contemporary figurative art, delving into themes of embodied memory, upheaval, and the path towards healing.

Artist Profile:
Kehinde Awofeso (b.1980) is a self-taught artist based in Ibadan, Nigeria, whose work draws from both lived and ongoing experiences. Through a gender non-binary lens, Awofeso explores social realities, questioning preconditions and challenging notions of normalcy. Their art serves as both a form of escape and a platform for engaging in discussions about resistance, identity, and autonomy within repressive systems. Awofeso holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and an MTech in Information Technology.
Past exhibitions include ‘Untangling the Perils that Tangle Us’ at Kanbi Projects, Koppel Project Space, London; ‘The (In)visible Organ’ at the Rubinstein Art Centre, Duke University, USA; ‘No Condition is Permanent’ and ‘Four Women’ at the Revolving Art Incubator in Lagos.
Awofeso’s works are part of the collections at Duke University, Bournemouth University, and several private collections in Nigeria, including that of Olumide Makanjuola. Their work was also recently added to the Karen Pittelman collection.
Curator Profile:
Sanwo ( b.1977) is a storyteller, cultural producer and artistic researcher whose artistic and curatorial interventions focus on the intersection of technology, innovation, materiality, and art. She explores the spatial and temporal experiences of the individual and the collective, highlighting the impact of colonial systems on, and within postcolonial societies.
She has curated several exhibitions locally and internationally.
