FashionEVO Partners with Popcentral for the Historic “70 Years of Music in Nigeria” Event

FashionEVO, an industry leader in fashion innovation, proudly announces its partnership with  Popcentral for the highly anticipated  “70 Years of Music in Nigeria”  event, set to run from  December 18 to 24, 2024. This groundbreaking event will explore the evolution of Nigerian music from 1954 to 2024, celebrating its immense cultural and artistic significance over the past seven decades.

The event will feature a wide range of activities that celebrate Nigeria’s rich musical history through an exciting blend of music, art, and culture. Attendees will experience timeline exhibitions, which will chronicle key milestones in Nigerian music history, alongside Town Hall sessions with music legends, historians, and contemporary artists. The event will also include curated visuals, offering a multi-sensory experience of Nigeria’s music scene, as well as a 70-year playlist that highlights the country’s most iconic sounds.

In addition to the exhibitions and town hall sessions, attendees can enjoy live jam sessions, showcasing up-and-coming artists and classic performances, as well as sound rooms where they can explore interactive exhibits. The event will also provide a rare, intimate look into the history of Nigerian music. For those looking to take a piece of the event home, souvenirs and autograph sessions with industry icons will also be available.

“Music and fashion have always been intertwined, creating powerful narratives that resonate across generations. This partnership gives us a chance to merge these two dynamic forces in a way that honours Nigeria’s creative evolution. We are proud to be a part of such a historic celebration.”  said Dr Yetty Ogunnubi, Founder of FashionEVO as she shared her excitement about the collaboration:

CEO of Popcentral and Chief Curator of the exhibition, Yinka Obebe also expressed his enthusiasm Throughout history, music and fashion have been two sides of the same coin, both serving as powerful forms of self-expression and cultural reflection. Nigerian music, in particular, has not only shaped our sound but has dictated the style of every era, capturing the spirit and individuality of each decade. Partnering with FashionEVO allows us to celebrate this beautiful intersection of rhythm and style, showcasing how music has influenced the way we see ourselves and the world around us.”

FashionEVO’s participation will include exclusive fashion-inspired art pieces that tie into the cultural and historical journey of Nigerian music. These exhibits will explore the profound impact music has had on fashion and visual culture, showcasing how the two worlds have influenced one another over time.  Seven designers will be exhibiting seven different pieces inspired by a notable musician, celebrating the intersection of music and fashion. These designers include Ciscacecil, Amarelis, Joseph Ejiro, Shakara Trybe, Cute Saint, Kola Kuddus and Jon Pelumi.

This collaboration comes at a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s creative industries and is aligned with the country’s broader cultural ambitions. The event is supported by key institutions, including the  Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, the  National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), and the  Centre for Black and African Art and Civilization (BAAC), all of which recognize the significant contribution of music and the arts to the nation’s identity and creative economy.
