HENGDI WANG Explores Post-Human Myths with SS26 Collection “EXOGENESIS” at Debut London Fashion Week Show

In a striking debut at London Fashion Week, HENGDI WANG unveiled the SS26 collection titled EXOGENESIS, a visionary exploration into the exogenous origins of life that intertwines Eastern mythology with post-human biological constructs, digital craftsmanship, and futuristic materials. This collection transcends traditional notions of clothing, presenting garments not merely as adornments or protective layers, but as vessels of memory, codes of survival, and bridges between the cosmic and the human experience.

A Narrative of Cosmic Relevance

At the heart of EXOGENESIS lies a profound narrative where ancient Eastern myths are reframed as reflections of humanity’s fragmented memory. The legendary bestiaries of the Shan Hai Jing emerge as echoes of extraterrestrial forms, while Kunlun is reimagined as a colossal generational starship—an artefact of forgotten journeys across the cosmos. HENGDI WANG invites the audience to perceive these myths not as distant fantasies but as integral components of our shared history, hinting at interstellar encounters and unknown star systems.

Innovative Textiles and Forms

The collection showcases an impressive array of 3D-printed textiles and metals inscribed with sacred geometries and nebula imagery. HENGDI WANG reconstructs elements such as bones, scales, and mechanical exoskeletons into innovative forms, celebrating the duality of resilience and fragility. Traditional techniques like embroidery and jacquard are transformed into dynamic vessels of information, intertwining with digital algorithms to create an organic aesthetic that exists in both the past and the future.

Three Axes of Exploration

EXOGENESIS examines myth, memory, and futurism through three distinct yet interconnected axes:

Mythological Reimagination:
Drawing inspiration from the *Shan Hai Jing* and oracle bone script (*Jiaguwen*), primordial beasts and cosmic myths are reinterpreted as biomorphic archetypes of extraterrestrial life. Ancient cultural codes evolve into contemporary design languages, bridging the gap between past and future.

Biological and Mechanical Structures:
The collection reimagines exoskeletal chitin, segmented armour, and iridescent scales through advanced 3D printing, creating skeletal spirals and sacred geometries. These hyper-organic forms embody a delicate balance between fragility and strength, merging the realms of biology and mechanics.

Mechanical Oracle Script:
Drawing from early inscriptions and digital coding, fabrics are laser-etched with “Mechanical Oracle Script”—a hybrid visual language that integrates geometry, ancient scripts, and NASA celestial imagery. These garments illuminate with bio-luminescent filaments, acting as living codes that narrate stories of interconnectedness across cosmic and cellular scales.

A Vision of Transformation

Through EXOGENESIS, HENGDI WANG presents a radical exploration of continuity, cultural resonance, and transformation. In this collection, clothing transcends the physical realm to become a container of time, a vessel of collective memory, and a living code that extends beyond the human body into the infinite unknown.
