Lagos Art Salon 2024: A Celebration of Creativity and Accessibility

In a compelling bid to democratize art appreciation, Lagos Art Salon 2024 unfolded as both an elegant showcase for aficionados and an inclusive platform for fresh enthusiasts. Capturing the essence of Nigerian creativity, the event was a resounding success in dismantling the notion that art is reserved only for the elite.

Hosted by Teal Culture, a frontrunner in interior design and art consultancy, the event dazzled Victoria Island, Lagos, from November 28th to December 3rd, 2024. This year’s theme, “Art Unmasked,” perfectly encapsulated the ethos of the five-day celebration: unveiling the richness of Nigerian artistry for a broader audience.

The opening day was an intimate affair, where select invitees were treated to an exclusive evening of discovery. Attendees enjoyed first access to the exhibition, accompanied by live music and exquisite cuisine, as they engaged with artists, bringing entire new dimensions to the showcased works.

The exhibits ranged from evocative paintings and intricately crafted sculptures to innovative mixed-media creations. Each piece was meticulously curated, enriching visitors’ experiences and sparking conversations that echoed the event’s mission of accessibility and engagement.

One of the highlights was the “Art Unmasked Master Class” on the second day, moderated by Omotunde Ibironke. Esteemed panelists, including Niyi Adenubi, art patron and financier, renowned sculptor Ato Prinze, and Tola Akerele, CEO of the National Theatre, enlightened attendees on art investment’s lucrative potentials. This educational session opened avenues for participants, be they art newcomers or seasoned collectors, to consider art not just as a cultural asset but as a financial one as well.

Throughout the event, art lovers were treated to guided tours, rich dialogues, and networking opportunities that strengthened connections within the artistic landscape of Nigeria.

Open to the public over the weekend and into the following week, the exhibition welcomed a diverse audience to immerse in and reflect upon the featured works:

Main Artists: AbdulRazaq. A. Titilayo, Usman Semiu Alvin, Omolola Coker, and Segun Akano
Resident Artists: Saheed Adelakun, Nathalie Kassi, and Orlu Prince Moses

Founder Folakemi Oloye of Lagos Art Salon and Teal Harmony expressed her excitement and ambition for the event:

“We are dedicated to elevating Nigerian art by providing artists with a prominent platform to display their talents. Our vision extends toward making art investment accessible and profitable for all, not just connoisseurs. This Salon aims to grow, further bridging artists and the global audience.”

As future editions are plotted, the organizers are committed to enhancing the salon’s reach, offering both local and international audiences greater insight into the brilliance of Nigerian art.
