Witness the Unveiling of Nigeria’s First-Ever 30-Foot Christmas Tree Made Entirely from Nigerian Fabrics

This Detty December, Lagos is set to make history with the unveiling of the first-ever 30-foot Christmas tree crafted entirely from Nigerian fabrics. This groundbreaking installation will be celebrated on Christmas Eve, December 24th, at the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History in Onikan, Lagos Island.

The visionary behind this monumental project is Ebunoluwa “ebbiekikz” Dosumu, a culture influencer, media personality, and fashion entrepreneur who founded Shakara Trybe. The tree is created from hundreds of donated fabrics, including Aso-oke, Ankara, Adire, George, and lace, sourced from families across Nigeria. Each piece carries its own unique memory and heritage, transforming the tree into a true community project. Together, these fabrics weave a powerful narrative: fashion is one of the strongest threads that bind Nigerians together.

Attendees of “A Shakara Christmas” will be immersed in a day that highlights the richness, beauty, and diversity of Nigerian culture. The event will feature an interactive stage play, the first of its kind in Lagos, alongside a Cultural Fashion Runway by Shakara Trybe, showcasing original Nigerian cultural pieces.

The festivities will evoke nostalgia with traditional games, festive characters, and experiences that remind us of the joys of growing up in Nigeria. Guests can indulge in an Indigenous Food Tasting Experience, sampling dishes from various tribes that celebrate Nigeria’s culinary diversity and the flavours that unite communities.

Cultural spotlights and immersive installations will further enrich the event, showcasing the stories, traditions, and artistry that define Nigeria’s vibrant cultural landscape. The evening will culminate in a heartwarming communal carol session led by the Loud Urban Choir beneath the illuminated 30-foot fabric tree, symbolising togetherness, hope, and the spirit of a united Nigeria.

“A Shakara Christmas” also marks the launch of Ariya Village, a vibrant 13-day cultural festival dedicated to showcasing tradition, fashion, food, storytelling, community living, indigenous craftsmanship, and Nigerian creativity. This event is designed for Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, offering meaningful, family-friendly, culturally rooted experiences this festive season.
