The New Guard: FashionEVO’s Intentional Salon at the British Council Lagos Hosts an Ultra-Chic Blueprint for the Creative Vanguard

In the world of high fashion and higher stakes, the most important conversations happen after the runway lights dim and the champagne is poured. In a masterful follow-up to International Women’s Day, FashionEVO curated an evening that moved beyond performative celebration and into the realm of pure, unadulterated power. Held at the British Council Lagos, the invitation-only gathering brought together an elite cohort of 60 women, the architects of Nigeria’s fashion, creative, and entrepreneurial landscape, for an experience that redefined the “post-IWD” narrative through a lens of quiet luxury and intellectual depth.

The British Council was transformed into a sanctuary of intentionality, a move supported by the institution’s ongoing commitment to fostering cultural exchange and inclusive leadership. Eschewing the frantic energy of traditional networking, guests were received into a meticulously curated atmosphere where the evening’s host, Adaeze Aduaka, navigated the room with a sophisticated grace that set the tone for an intimate, room-led dialogue.

The sensory experience was immediate and undeniably Vogue. An evocative art showcase by Artinuke adorned the space, creating a visual dialogue with the structural elegance of Rumens Bags on display. In a nod to the future of the industry, FashionandcoECO’s newest collection was showcased on perfectly curated mannequins, offering a tactile glimpse into the next era of sustainable African couture. As guests moved through the space, the air was punctuated by the clinking of crystal as Glenfiddich, the evening’s drinks partner, served bespoke cocktails crafted for the discerning palate.

Dr Yetty Ogunnubi

At the heart of this gathering was a personal mission for Dr Yetty Ogunnubi, the founder of FashionEVO. For her, the evening marked the birth of a legacy through the official launch of the Blueprints & Breakthroughs Series. Through the lens of the founder, the series is more than a program; it is a definitive manifesto. Dr Yetty views this initiative as a vehicle to document, amplify, and translate the raw, lived experiences of women into practical, sustainable pathways for the next generation of creative titans.

“This was never designed to be just another event,” Dr Yetty shared, her vision clear amidst the lush displays of TAFE Organics, whose artisanal products were both artfully exhibited and shared as coveted gifts with every guest in attendance. “It was about creating a sanctuary where women could exchange real value and see themselves for what they truly are: the economic drivers shaping the future of global industry. The Blueprints & Breakthroughs Series is our way of ensuring that these successes are mapped out as a guide for those coming after us.”

Harry Kesiena

The evening’s sentiment was reinforced by Harry Kesiena, Head of Arts & Culture at the British Council, “This gathering reflects the kind of intentional spaces we need to support the growth of Nigeria’s creative economy. Women are not only participating in the sector, they are shaping its direction, building businesses, and creating value. At the British Council, we are committed to supporting platforms that connect talent to opportunity, strengthen leadership, and translate creativity into sustainable economic impact.”

The success of the night was woven together by a prestigious collective of partners, including YD Company, Africa Creative Market, Insigna, Rare Magic Studio, Click Booth, PoshClick, Afro Flavour Events, Media Room Hub, and RedEdit Magazine.

As the evening concluded, the afterglow suggested something permanent. The modern African woman is no longer just participating in the creative economy; she is authoring its most important chapters. With the Blueprints & Breakthroughs Series now in motion, the momentum from this Lagos evening, supported by the British Council, is set to ripple across the continent’s cultural consciousness, turning individual triumphs into a collective roadmap for the future of fashion.
